Silence

What's up with that?
I woke up this morning to silence.
Since they have been redoing our crescent, for the past month or so, every morning around 7am I wake to the sound of heavy machinery starting up. I actually started getting up earlier so I could have my coffee in peace and quiet.  But  this morning I didn't wake up until 8:30 am.  Obviously I thought it was earlier as I didn't hear any machinery.  I looked at the clock and gasped!  Even the hounds were still in bed. Usually Gobble Guts Gloria won't let me stay in bed 'cause she wants those morning treats!
I went to the living room and looked out the window and saw this. (see our lovely new sidewalks)

Yippee!!  Silence!

I rushed around to get the dogs out to go potty, feed and water them and put coffee on before the noise started. But it's 10:30 am and there's still no one around. Ahhhhh!!

Yesterday I woke up at 7am to this.

I'll call it the tamper.  All day the tamper went around tamping down the dirt on the road.

Everything in our house shook and rattled all day.  Between the heat and the noise it just gave you a headache!
So the silence today is very welcome.  It's actually kind of eerie.

And Fred.......well, he's in on the couch.........

........with a bully stick hangover from last night. I gave him one to settle him down.  He's been getting so antsy  since they haven't been able to get out for walks because of the heat.  Yesterday afternoon I actually soaked them down with the hose to cool them off and of course that turned Freddie into a complete wild man!! So, I left Fred there on the couch, got my laptop and came outside.  I don't even mind the heat right now.  My  Gardenias bloomed and the smell out here is great!

I've never had Gardenia's before.  I just love them!
And yesterday I even finished another dishcloth for my daughter.

Today I will attempt the pot holder from Dip-Dip and The Bridge and the Blogsville Ladies Crochet Society!

Have a great weekend everybody and try to stay cool!

  6. Silence is such a lovely thing! Even though I can't remember the last time it was completely quiet LOL with 3 Doxies and all.
I love that dishcloth, the colors a great! And gardenias are one of my favorite flowers, even though they all stopped blooming about 2 months ago

  8. Man, that tamper is RIGHT outside your window. I know how annoying those things are. My neighbor has been using his skill saw right outside my living room door for the past few days. It feels like torture.

  9. That tamper was a little close! Must have been a headache maker for sure. Freddie looks like he is enjoying the peace and quiet today though. Your gardenia's are beautiful, I didn't even put out any flowers this year, although I do have an empty planter still on the rail of the deck that I "intended" to fill.

  10. I can only dream of being able to sit outside right now. The heat is just miserable. I'm not usually a complainer, either, but enough is enough!

Those rare silent mornings are a treasure at our house! Maybe they had to let things settle some after they used the tamper? Or maybe the next machine they needed wasn't available today.

  11. Enjoy your silence! It is looking very nice and once it is done you can all celebrate. BTW, Stanley tends to go a bit crazy when he first gets in the water too. It is hot here too but yesterday it rained so we had a cool day and got to go for a long walk in the evening. Have a good day!

    Your friends,

    Murphy & Stanley

  13. You must relish the silence when the machinery stops, it must be horrible for you all.
Your gardenias are beautiful, I wish computers had the ability to smell stuff.
    Super dishcloth, loving the stripes!

  15. We loved your sidewalk pictures and using something Mummy2Legs calls "vision" we think it will look real nice when its finished - you need "vision" to keep you sane Mummy said - she needed a lot of it when Daddy2Legs 'created' should we say, some block paving on the front drive - he got his friend who is a farmer to come down with a tractor/digger type effect and all day they dug about 4 feet down for this 'block paved drive' - took days to fill in with special van deliveries of hardcore - then for the finale, Daddy2Legs hired a "tamper" type machine - well I am surprised his head did not fall off, ours nearly did, tampering all day, night, day and night - "vision" - don't let it go my friend as it is that or insanity! Love Barnie x

  19. I actually had to carry Elka across a street today because there was a partially new-tarred road and none of the construction dudes (there were 8) deigned to look at me so I could ask if it was safe. I was displeased. Elka was confused, but we pick her up all the time, so she dealt with that graceully.

  20. With the lack of sleep from all that machinary, it's no wonder you slept in today! The sidewalks are looking nice, and you and the dogs will surely appreciate them once those workers are done and clear out.

  21. No one commands a couch like Freddie! Your gardenias are beautiful. I'm so impressed with your dishcloth, especially the stripes. Looks like they still have a lot of work to do, but the sidewalks look wonderful.

  22. Fred and Gloria! What the heck are you letting your Momma sleep in till 8.30am for?? You are making the rest of us look bad, hehe. We feel anything between 6.15 am and 7.00 am is totally the right time. Mum says we should take a leaf out of your book. See ya mates. No worries, and love, Stella and Rory

  23. You must be on your last nerve with those street repairs! Enjoy that silence... from the looks of your street it won't last long :-( Sending sympathy!

  24. That does sound eerie! Kinda like here. We have a very active neighborhood, but with all this excessive heat, it's been practically silent. I don't like it.

  25. Silence! Finally... it's done! Phew... a month? Seriously... it's irritating.

Anyway, we are happy that you've gotten some nice R & R. By the way, aren't they planning to cement that tampered road?

Freddie is such a character and you do such a wonderful job of capturing his personality. Fabulous!

I would enjoy the peace and quiet and I hope it lasts longer for you! The sidewalks look great and when all the annoyance is done I am sure you will love it!!

Your gardenias are GORGEOUS!!! makes the hot weather worthwhile and I love your dishrag!! Great job!!

  27. UGH, I can't stand machinery noise. I always notice when some one is cutting grass......it's like they take turns and it goes on for hours! So I get it too!

Fred has the right idea. Your gardenias are beautiful.

  28. Fred on the couch...OMG he makes me smile!!!!!! After I saw your photos of your couch and chair with ottoman I have that on my wish list for the family room. I don't know HOW you have been putting up with all the street noise but so grateful you have peace and quiet now. Ahhhhhhh....enjoy. Come Monday I bet they are back. Tucker would be a nervous wreck or I would listening to him bark at that ALL day.

I love gardenias...they smell just heavenly....

  29. How nice to finally have a nice morning! Lovely flowers, if they smell as good as they look then they must be heavenly!

  30. Hey Guys,

So happy you're having a little bit of peace and quiet!! :)

That picture of Freddie is funny - a Bully Stick Hangover! :) I get all wound up too after my showers, then we go for a walk to dry off, then I'm all pooped again, I think it's Mum and Dad's strategy!! :)

    Have fun,

    Your pal Snoopy :)

  34. Somehow with that tamper I imagine something from a movie that every time it hit the ground your house would shake on its foundation. I'm surprised it didn't shake the petals off that beautiful gardenia!

I hope you're enjoying your weekend and that it's a quiet one!

  35. Our house is almost a hundred years old, I don't think it would survive the tamper. But those flowers are beautiful!

  36. It sure seems like it has been taking forever for them to finish that construction work. Hopefully the tamper means they are coming to the end and just need to finish the road.

Friday it was 97 degrees F at our cabin in northern Michigan. Thank goodness we broke down and bought a window ac unit. Since our place is tiny, it took care of the whole thing. Didn't spend as much time outside as I would have liked, but I was able to do a top to bottom cleaning without passing out from the heat. :)

  37. silence?? that word is not in the schnauzer dictionary. those big machines look scary, but i think a gang of schnauzers can be louder than them. ;)

  40. Hi! You don't have much space in your bed! I'm so happy for you if the noise has stopped, must have made you all grazy. We have sometimes army planes making terrible noise. Airport is very close but the normal air planes don't bother us at all - it's quite nice to see them and think what stories those travellers have. After Nero's ear problem, he can't stand noises.
Your gardenia looks fantastic! And the smell is so amazing! Lets hope for fooler weather! x Teje

  41. So much for the silence that day eh? hehe. Love the gardenia! I wish I had that in my garden. And I LOVE your dishcloths...thank you for making me one!! Can't wait to see the finished pot holder :)

  42. Ugh, I'm barely surviving this heat, I can't imagine a constant pounding added to the mix. :o

Your flowers are BEAUTIFUL! I don't think I even know what a gardenia is but I sure want one now. :) I'm guessing they need a fair amount of sun?
